Salvador Dali (1904 - 1989) began his fine art studies in Madrid at the age of 18.  He later left for Paris and joined the Surrealist group of painters and sculptors.  In 1929 he met the young Russian girl Helena Diakonova, known as Gala, who would become his model and girlfriend.  In fact, she appears in many of his most famous works, including Lincoln Vision, for sale here.  Dalí and Gala settled for a few years in the United States, where his work was extremely successful.  In 1948 he went back to live in Europe with the legacy of becoming one of the most famous artists of his time.  In 1983 he created the Gala-Salvador Dalí Foundation, created to manage, protect and promote his artistic and intellectual legacy.
