Mixed media refers to an artwork which makes use of more than one medium. It is a method which combines various visual art media that is traditionally distinct. For example, it may combine ink, watercolor or oils. The layers must be chosen carefully to ensure the integrity of the final product. The heavier the media, such as oils, the more important it is to use as the final layer. Mixed media artwork has given artists more flexibility in creating their images.
