Pino Daeni, born Giuseppe Dangelico, in Bari, Italy on November 8, 1939, studied at the Art institute of Bari and later at Milan’s Academy of Brera. Pino was heavily influenced by the Pre-Raphaelites and Macchiaioli, particularly perfecting his skills in his paintings of nudes. His early paintings use soft and romantic strokes, depicting women dressed in flowing skirts and dresses, some placed in sensuous settings. His paintings also included sunny, clear beaches, or young children with beautiful women. Pino’s style was subtle and warm, especially exuding nostalgia of love and family.

In 1980 Pino’s work was noticed by book publishers who commissioned him to create book cover illustrations. He subsequently became one of the foremost and prolific illustrators of romance novel covers, having created over 3,000 illustrations, many for the books of Danielle Steele and others. His popularity grew within the literary community, soon in very high demand by top publishers. Pino used a once unknown model, named Fabio, who later gained attention and fame through Pino’s work. In addition, his ability to capture the movements and expressions of his subjects brought him private commissions to do portraits.  Pino's artwork can now be found in galleries and private collections around the world. He died very recently on May 25, 2010 and is now the subject of a 165 page, full color art book about his life and paintings.
